MLB Network Is Now Available on Sling TV
Sling TV’s latest move was just in time for fans of professional baseball. The streaming video platform announced this afternoon that it has added the MLB Network and MLB Strike Zone to its lineup- just a few days before the new baseball season starts.
The MLB Network will carry live regular season and playoff games as well as an evening news show: MLB Tonight. Strike Zone will air highlights and updates of live games airing on Tuesday and Friday.
The baseball channels will be in Sling TV’s Sports Extra Package, for which the customer will pay a $5.00 to $10.00 monthly premium over the rate for the core package. The rate for the premium channels varies according to the subscription.
With a Sling TV subscription, an MLB TV member can watch regular season out of market games. The streaming will be subject to MLB blackout rules, though, so such games may not be available for live viewing.
A full list of the games to be carried by the MLB Network is available here.
For the last two decades, cable systems and regional sports networks have dominated the live airing of MLB games. Professional baseball has not been especially friendly to cord-cutters, and Sling TV’s offer of the MLB Network is a rare departure from this pattern.
What is Sling TV?
Sling TV is Dish Network’s semi-independent internet streaming video platform. Sling TV does not require a satellite dish or cable box, scheduling of installation, or a long term contract. The core package of thirty-seven channels sells for a mere $25.00 per month.
Sling TV is compatible with almost every known smart TV or streaming device: Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, the AirTV Player, Chromecast, LG and Samsung smart TVs, Roku, XBox One gaming consoles, Android and iOS tablets and phones, and Chrome and Windows browsers.
