Charter Will Sell $15.00 TV Channel Package
The market for extremely cheap multi-channel TV is getting more crowded. Philo, Sling TV, and AT&T’s Watch TV will soon be joined by Charter, the second largest cable TV system in America. Charter will soon offer a streaming channel package selling for a mere $15.00 per month.
The new package, to be called Spectrum TV Essentials, will feature more than 60 live video channels, primarily entertainment networks. It will not include the major commercial broadcast networks nor their regional sports channels.
Charter is planning to take the new $15.00 package live near the end of March 2019, and will offer it only to its Spectrum Internet subscribers who don’t get the regular Spectrum TV service. Access to TV Essentials will be through the existing Spectrum TV app, which is compatible with Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku streaming devices, XBox One gaming consoles, Samsung Smart TVs, iOS and Android tablets and phones, and most web browsers.
Video On Demand and Cloud DVR
Charter said that its TV Essentials customers will have access to its VOD (video on demand) content, with more than 15,000 on-demand titles available. The cable system will add a cloud DVR in a few months.
A Partial List of TV Essentials Channels
The TV Essentials package will include, among other channels: A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, BBC America, BBC World News, BET, Bloomberg, Cheddar, CMT, Comedy Central, Cooking Channel, Destination America, Discovery, DIY, Food Network, Game Show Network, Hallmark, HDNet Movies, History, Independent Film Channel, Lifetime, LOGO, Motor Trend, MTV, Newsmax TV, Newsy, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Outdoor Channel, OWN, Paramount Network, Science Channel, Sundance, TLC, Travel Channel, TV Land, VH1, Viceland, The Weather Channel, and WE TV.
