Puerto Rico Gets Sling TV
Sling TV is forever seeking to conquer new frontiers. Not content with its leading U.S. position in multichannel video streaming, it is now extending its reach to Puerto Rico.
In the island commonwealth, the streaming platform will bring severe competitive pressure against the existing cable system, Liberty Global. Dish Network, Sling TV’s parent company, has been active in Puerto Rico for decades.
Just as it does in the U.S., Sling TV offers seven-day free day trials to new customers in Puerto Rico. On the island, access to the streaming platform will be available through all currently supported devices. These include Android and iOS tablets and phones, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, XBox One game consoles, and Mac and PC computers. All Sling TV services and channel packages available in the U.S. will be offered on the island.
In addition to its core packages, Sling TV will stream its Spanish-language programming off-continent. Beside its Best of Spanish TV package, this includes regional channels such as SudAmerica, Espana, and Caribe.
None of Sling TV’s competitors, including AT&T’s DirecTV Now platform, are active in the Puerto Rican market. By contrast, the U.S. market for video services is highly crowded.
What is Sling TV?
Dish Network launched Sling TV in the Spring of 2015. It grew quickly, and is now the largest multichannel video streaming service in the U.S.
Unlike traditional TV services, Sling TV does not require cable networks or satellite dishes. Customers do not have to sign long term contracts, schedule installation, or buy proprietary equipment, and as noted above, Sling TV is available through a wide variety of computers, phones, and streaming devices. Access to the platform is as simple as entering a four-digit code.
Sling TV’s basic 31-channel package costs a mere $20.00 per month. Several ‘Extra’ premium packages are available for $5.00 per month each.
