With the AirTV Player, Dish Network has a solid hit on its hands. It is being swamped by consumer demand. AirTV’s purchase page warns those who order the device that they may have to wait longer than expected to receive it: “Due to overwhelming initial response, orders placed at this time will ship in approximately two weeks. An e-mail including the tracking number will be sent once the order ships. Thank you for your internet in the AirTV Player!”

With streaming capability only, the AirTV Player sells for $99.00. For an additional $30.00, you could add an antenna adapter that will bring in over-the-air local broadcast channels.
The Air TV Player, officially unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, is manufactured by the Dish DBS Corporation, a corporate cousin of Dish Network. It was designed to receive over-the-air (standard radio wave broadcast) signals and streaming video from Netflix and Sling TV. The system is meant to address an obvious shortcoming with streaming video services: difficulty in receiving local broadcast channels. With AirTV’s antenna adapter, you’d have access to the streaming channels and local broadcast stations on the same box, using the same remote.
Sling TV
Sling TV is Dish Network’s dedicated internet video streaming service. It doesn’t require a satellite dish or set-top box. You don’t have to sign a long-term contract to get it, and you don’t have to schedule installation of any equipment. It will work on almost any streaming box, smart phone, tablet, or computer.
